Over the years I’ve both spoken and written at length to allow you all to have the knowledge parked away in the back of your head to be able to survive a school shooting should you ever be caught in one.
I personally would like to see every American over the age of 12 taught their immediate options should a school mass shooting occur. After all, I believe that it’s a human right to know those options in order to stay alive.
As every shooting of the past, my heart goes out to those affected by the shooting in Texas recently.
Every time there’s a shooting, it’s the same old rhetoric. Firstly, there has to be sufficient numbers killed in order that it makes headline breaking news, and then keep that news at the top of the news cycle for some time…after all for the news networks it’s all about clicks. Already this year alone there has been over 20 school shootings, but you wouldn’t know it because most haven’t been news worthy…lack of a high number of killings! Then you have the town’s mayor, police chief and school principal telling the waiting media what a terrific job “first responders” and others have done….then some time later we get the truth.
Thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers…
Then everyone talks about what can be done to stop this madness? We have a split between ban guns versus guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

The venue doesn’t matter, your options are the same…3 options…RUN…HIDE…FIGHT.
Those schools and workplaces that go through the insurance tick in the box practice of lockdown only drills, take a long look at yourself in the mirror, because you’re no longer in the real world. Locking down children in a classroom is tantamount to shooting fish in a barrel.
Knowledge dispels fear…I learnt that as a young 17 yr old student paratrooper when that was the parachute school’s motto. Having learnt all about parachuting in the classroom first…how to wear a parachute, how to operate it, how to turn into wind, how to prepare for landing, how to land, the emergency drills…was way better than putting on a chute and jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft without any training. This is the very same…sitting in a locked classroom waiting and hoping that nothing happens to you while a crazed gunman is wandering around your school campus looking for targets does not work any more. Because knowledge dispels fear…learn your options, park it, and it’s there should you be unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time at some point in your life.
Please, I know all about mass shootings and mass suicide bombings…I’ve been there…it stays with you for the rest of your life. I’m writing this because I’m able to…they didn’t get me…I had the knowledge…I took one of the options and I survived.
Now all I want you to do is learn the options and when to use them…I want you to survive too.
This is America, nothing serious will change, there will be more mass shootings before the year’s out…run…hide…fight!

I was thinking you and the singer John Legend should get together…. He has very strong views on this subject…. But he also has a great platform to educate those politicians who support the NRA ….
