Does it actually have a spear at all?
The first anniversary of the conflict in Ukraine…a not so happy anniversary at that.
Will there be a second in a year’s time, followed by a third and a fourth…?
My view of the leader of the free world POTUS, was to have him say to Putin just over a year ago: “if you put one single tank onto Ukraine soil, we (NATO) will attack you with full conventional force.”
But no, our weak and timid Western leadership, including POTUS is in bed with big business. What big business says…goes.
For the rest of the USA and the West with companies not involved in Ukraine cutting down on their workforce each and every day, the ordinary people are paying the price. Yes, innocent Ukrainians are dying in their thousands with millions displaced. I feel for them, just like I felt for the Afghans, the Iraqis, the Libyans and the Syrians…all countries that the West has got involved in over the last 20 years or so…for what exactly?
The image of 9/11 gets thrown in my face often when I’m having a morning’s worth of “putting the world to rights” with “coffee mates” here in America. My answer: “if POTUS back then was true to the vision (spin) of The War On Terror, they would have attacked selected targets in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan…the funding, and recruiting grounds of Wahhabist’ terrorism.”
So, after the dreadful operation (and it was always going to be messy) of getting out of Afghanistan for good, I really thought that would be the end of the “corporate wars.”
I expected the next war to be directly against Russia or China…real threats to our Western democracy.
So, a year after Russia going into Ukraine with aggression, our timid leadership still talks about sanctions. They’ve taken their boats, now will they take their boat shoes?
There has been sanctions on the likes of Cuba for decades, but they’ve still managed to laugh and last out.
NATO as a military in the past has been pretty toothless in my humble opinion! Not the soldiers, sailors and airmen, but the Generals who would rather wear their political hats than their military ones.
Example: During Afghanistan’s long Western occupation of 20 years…each successive NATO General became more and more of a failure than the previous one. They lied, their military spokesmen lied, much of the media lied too as they only parroted what the generals told them…I know I was there throwing the odd bone to the media in order to tackle the generals. Most couldn’t move their troops at will around the hard areas of Afghanistan, as NATO politics got in the way. Germany deployed to the north would not allow troops into the southern or eastern Provinces. So NATO were NEVER on the same page collectively.
So what of NATO going onto the ground or/and air of Ukraine. Or even a bolder land move from West to East and onto Russia?
Does what I’ve just explained from Afghanistan stop them from doing either?
China has a bigger military than all of us today, and it continues to grow. Little Britain has the smallest military in it’s fighting history. The USA is spending crazy sums of tax payers’ $$$$$ on military hardware to Ukraine, while it’s own country is sinking. Items at sky high prices. Lawlessness in every city. Businesses laying off workers. Years ago, this all would have been a recipe for going to war.
War is not good…ever, I know I’ve had 40 years of wars in different parts of the world in my lifetime. It never just effects the country hosting it, it effects most of the world as we’re global today, as we keep getting told. So the dilemma is…do we go to war and end the economic struggles, or continue to finance the war with taxpayers’ money pouring into the pockets of investors of the defence industry and others?
So, is NATO an effective force militarily today, unlike the force of the Afghan conflict? And can they effectively end this crazy war of the 21st Century, or are the leaders of NATO’s countries so far apart from one another, that NATO has never actually had a spear tip at all, it’s always been a blunt instrument backed alone by a load of blow hard speeches calling out any opposition?
True. Like the old saying, ready money speaks anywhere. ask Mr General Dynamics or Mr B A Systems. Perhaps if the UK’s NHI Service maybe opened an ordenance factory or two. Ha! such are dreams made of.
Absolutely spot on Bob
