My garden…my safe space.
I must admit, the first time I heard about individuals requiring a safe space I laughed…and laughed…and laughed!
However, it may well have been the context in which it was described that caused my reaction.
Well, today at almost 70yrs young I require my own safe space…my garden.
But it’s more than just a safe space. It allows me to think. It’s most definitely therapeutic, especially when I’m pulling up wild plants (weeds) that are choking others, or sifting through the soil with my bare hands…it’s nature and it’s great, but sadly it’s even a metaphor for what’s happening in front of us each and every day.
When I’m not working on my garden I’ll sit there, sometimes from just after first light, and sometimes up to and after last light, and just watch the animals and birds forage and play in our garden.
The other morning there was a young black squirrel chasing a young rabbit around and around our bird table…it went on for about 5 minutes…until they both got tired of playing and went back to foraging.
I see the American Robin, much larger than our own back home, as everything’s bigger in America! The tiny American Goldfinch standing out with it’s bright yellow plume. The Blue Jay, the Red Cardinal, and for some reason (we’re surrounded by trees) a Woodpecker that would rather take it out on our fence than the trees…but still stunning to see.
But even with all this beauty around, my mind still wanders off onto today’s activities here in the US and back home. Both Governments in tatters causing the world to laugh, and ask just how these individuals make Presidents or Prime Ministers?
Millions of individuals coming across our borders without process, demanding their safe space from oppression, economic hardships, or simply migrating away from drought, no clean fresh water or a lack of food. For the families, their women and children…I feel for them. However, for the hundreds of thousands of young males of fighting age who are really displacing for what they can gain for free…get back home, stand up and fight for your country!
I never thought for a moment when I had my first child in my early 20s, that this was the beginning of bringing up children and leaving them to a world in a worse position than the one that I grew up in…from just 9 years after the Second World War, through the remaining 50s and into the 60s. We didn’t need much, there were no iPhones, computers or social media, we actually had to face one another to communicate.
There is no doubt that the might of the USA and the UK in particular who always punched well above it’s weight has now long gone. No one is afraid to take us on now, even if it’s indirectly. And the actions of Russia, China, North Korea militarily, and Saudi Arabia both militarily inside of Yemen and also economically by calling the shots with their oil distribution or lack of, are today’s signs of just where we are.
$$$$$ is all that matters today…respect of the electorate no longer matters, as it’s the giant globalists who call the shots…yes the sociopaths that could not give a moment for the common people. Indeed it’s those very people who bankroll the individuals in the running for POTUS, or the odd one of those decide to run themselves (DT), which is just why the two political parties are really seen as the two cheeks of the same big fat Wall St arse.
It will take a third, fourth or even a fifth serious political party to challenge the big two before we see changes for the better here in the US in my humble opinion. After all, the population of the USA is large enough to accept more political parties and get away from the country being split down the middle every single day.
I walk or drive from my safe space, to do some admin, take my child to school, or simply go for a coffee and catchup with a mate…and what do I encounter? Drivers jumping red lights, jumping stop signs at junctions, not bothering to indicate and just stopping in the middle of the road, jumping out while the vehicle continues to engine idle, and run into a corner shop…no thought what so ever for those around them. Walking down my local high street there is an almost constant haze of marijuana contaminating the streets.
If I decide to encounter any of these individuals, I could be shot, stabbed or run over. And if indeed (even at my old age), I decide to chin someone for their ignorant behaviour, there will undoubtably be a lawsuit following soonest in this litigious country. However, ignorance on my part to these scenarios is most certainly not bliss.
Life is definitely not as it was. I know for a fact that the leading kids in many schools today are exceptionally bright…I’ve witnessed them first hand from my time over here watching my daughter and her friends achieving amazing results. So just maybe they are the ones to ring major change…I sincerely hope so.
Meanwhile, I’ll continue to run around the streets and keep fit, I’ll limit my movements other than that. And I’ll continue to enjoy the local nature inside of my safe space, and sit and think…and think…and think.
Here’s to a safer, more thoughtful and fairer world for our kids and grand kids.
No need to even label it a safe space lol! It just looks like cool place to hang out!
Kurt, safe as in it’s my space, and therefore all the threats outside from the street onwards remain out there. “Uninterrupted thinking zone” may have been better.
Love that space Bob
Nicely put just a pity how true it is, I fear for my grandkids and their future. Take care Bob.
