6 Troop, B Squadron, 22 SAS Regiment A poem by Bob Shepherd

Transport, weapons platform, living accommodation…the Klepper canoe.

Big 6!

Am I dead? Am I dead?

The paddle is down I can no longer be fed

Am I dead? Am I dead?

The Klepper canoe moves with a team of two

Am I dead? Am I dead?

To the sea we parachuted off the plane’s tailgate

If the Klepper piles in we meet our fate

Sixteen miles out from the nearest land, we need lady luck to lend a hand

Am I dead? Am I dead?

We sink the pallet to become a reef

The Klepper’s prepared there is no grief

In we both get and paddle on a bearing

Sixteen miles to land just how are we fairing?

Am I dead? Am I dead?

We hit the coastline and without any wear

Now to paddle up the river to the enemy’s lair

Green lights flashing before my eyes

In the jungle’s darkness we’ve been taken by surprise

Am I dead? Am I dead?

Our bodies are smashed by tracer and ball

The enemy has us as I begin to fall

Out of bed and onto the floor

It’s just an old boat trooper behind my front door

Am I dead? Am I dead?

Reliving the dream of days gone by

I awake with a thud and begin to cry

A member of Big 6 I’m so proud to have been

Curled up on the floor I don’t want to be seen

Am I dead? Am I dead?
