A Very Happy 250th Birthday To The US Army. From a UK SF Vet.

Embedded with a US Army unit in Nuristan, Afghanistan, as a security adviser to the media.

For over 50 years now I’ve been associated with the US Army in some shape or fashion.

From my youthful days in the early 1970s as a young paratrooper taking part in a joint exercise between British, US and Turkish soldiers jumping into Turkey.

I was honoured to swap my Dennison para smock for a US airborne Major’s jacket.

Later in my military career as part of the special forces, I had the opportunity to work with and get to know the early players of Delta Force…another honour to forge relationships with some awesome soldiers.

And later again, after my military career, I would work (as in the above photo) alongside US Army soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan while embedded for days, out patrolling with infantry troops.

Bob Shepherd as keynote speaker at Pelham, NY’s Memorial Day.

Lastly, when living in New York State, I was honoured to be asked to take part in the town of Pelham’s Memorial Day service address as the keynote speaker of the event, sharing my personal thoughts on war.

The latter being truly an honour.

Here’s to you all…enjoy your 250th birthday today.
