THIS BRITISH TOMMY

awesomeness

A helluva way to book a hair appointment.

For centuries the British Tommy has punched above his weight.

Even in my time, there has been some pretty awesome achievements from British soldiers no matter the cap badge. On the whole, the vast majority of soldiers will be there…when that bell rings.

However, this is different. This laddie, wasn’t prepared for an operation along with his wing men, team mates, troop or squadron. He was alone, his mental space was perhaps miles from the hotel when the scenario kicked off. But he turned up, alone in the skills set and training that this young man brings to the day.

He had to tune in, switch on, have a mental plan, be prepared to use others in his plan…move like lightening, speed, controlled aggression, and complete surprise…and here he is, from one of the shyest units in the world, thrown onto the world stage by a group of media individuals snapping away at everything.

I know what it’s like to operate alone, it’s tough, you have to constantly question yourself, and if you get it wrong, you have to live with it. Because there’s no one else to give you a dig, and help you put it right.

In my view, this young man is awesomeness personified x10!

It doesn’t matter which Regiment he represents, this is an individual act of sheer bravery, coolness, professionalism and full belief in one’s ability.

In my humble opinion, the best gesture in life, is for a stranger to walk up to you in a pub, and just stick a pint in your hand while reaching out and shaking the other hand to say thank you.

I would be honoured to be that stranger!

  1. You and me both. Why don’t you want to be and stand as an independant MP for the UK I would vote for you and so would everyone else with common sense unlike the lemmings we are currently saddled with.

    1. Part of being a Good Soldier is knowing when to buy a mate a pint…..like I will if you show up on my doorstep in Canada, Bob….Dusty!

  2. Terrific reaction. So easy too not get involved. Fight or flight. It is assuring to know that in this time, there are members of the armed forces willing to go where others fear to tread. A pint is on the bar.
