2022 The Year Of Personal Accountability?

What a couple of years we’ve all had!

Yesterday while walking my bulldogge, I spoke with a local school teacher. She told me that the wee tots that she teaches have never seen one another’s faces other than their eyes, as for the last 2 years they’ve consistently wore masks while attending school. They haven’t even been aware of kids facial expressions while talking to the teacher or to one another…how sad is that?!

Anyway, we can all come up with our stories of just how we’ve coped or not during the past couple of years, and what we all think should happen this year…more of the same, or enough is enough?

However, the only thing that I want to suggest here, is exactly what to do as individuals in order to give ourselves all a chance going forward.

Whether it’s living through COVID and it’s variants, or escaping tornadoes, wild fires, floods, drought or conflict…we all find out at some stage that we are ultimately ALL on our own. If there’s help at hand or even advice of some sort at stages of the “event” then great, but overall, we make our own decisions, and we take on the actions while responding accordingly.

We’ve all seen it…mask/no mask, ride out the storm/leave early to a place of safety…and so it goes on.

But there is one thing that we can all do to give ourselves a chance…and really COVID two years ago was a great wakeup call to do this. Be as fit and healthy as you possibly can be! Both obesity and all that it brings, and the continuous dependency of daily unnecessary “big pharma” is a huge problem in today’s USA.

If you’re physically and mentally fit, and you can keep your strength and immune system as high as possible, then you have a chance of survival in most circumstances…of course just like life itself there are never guarantees, but hey, at least you’re giving yourself every chance for a future.

I live in the USA, arguably the unhealthiest country on the planet. Their neighbours, and even my own country (UK) isn’t far behind.

In the last 2 years, I’ve watched some of the people I know here put on weight, when most needed badly to take it off. I see medical, police, and fire fighters going about their day’s activities in uniform…well overweight. Even individuals in today’s military are overweight too. Not just what does that do for them, but what does it do for their buddy partners who have looked after themselves, and have to toil along next to them when coping with operational emergencies?

Not once have I heard the TV talking heads mention the unhealthiness of the Nation when covering COVID stories.

Just imagine if over 2 years ago when COVID rampaged it’s way through our countries if the vast majority of individuals were in good shape with high immune systems. As a whole, the country would have coped way better than it did…to the point that kids’ education and the economy would not have suffered as much. Hospitals too would not have been overwhelmed as they were.

Well, it’s better late than never, as they say!

So, let’s kick off 22 with a plan…an individual, family or group plan…it doesn’t matter. The more that can get on board the better, start kicking arses of those who need arses kicked.

THE PLAN:

Look oneself in the mirror each and every morning. Put your health problem (not withstanding genetically inherited disease, cancer etc) firmly on your own plate…don’t be blaming others for your present physical state. And put a plan together to get fit and keep that immune system as high as possible. Remember…only the strong survive.

No more triple shifts at work…whether a doctor, nurse or warehouse worker…or indeed anything else...no matter your fitness levels, that sort of exhausting work is only going to lower your immune system, no matter who you are.

Get onto and maintain a healthy diet of good food in realistic proportions.

Exercise regularly, even if it’s just walking 20 minutes per day to begin with.

Get off of unnecessary daily big pharma.

Stop smoking, get off of recreational drugs and drink less alcohol.

I acknowledge that getting fit, and getting off of things that are ultimately bad for you are not easy, but please remember it’s not just about yourself. Your loved ones, your friends, and even your co-workers all rely on you…and some even love you. They ALL want to see you around for a very long time to come.

Smile often and think positively…have time for one another, no matter how much you may disagree. I’ve never seen a nation so split as this one…politically or otherwise.

How’s this for starters, just a wee bit of much needed tough love?

Just maybe we can all be accountable for ourselves beginning together now in 2022…all the very best and a Happy New Year.

  1. In my opinion, very sound advice indeed Bob. I am definitely guilty of some of the pointers you listed – will try harder for ‘22.
Time I quit doing so many extra shifts & went back to the mountains!

  2. Very well written, sometimes finding the motivation is quite hard. I myself found it straight away lying in hospital 2 years ago. I went from 95kg down to 78kg in 5 months. Now trying to lose those extra kilos again.

  3. Yep agree Bob, and the only thing I would add is focus as much as possible on living in the moment. Too many of us are living in the past and/or the future….. which can often end up with one being frustrated, dissatisfied, anxious, stressed and simply just unhappy.

The moment is what is real….

    😊❤️🙏
