Sadly there is still plenty of hate in the world in 2022
Yet another mass shooting, over 600 this year alone in the USA, (defined by 4 or more people being shot excluding the shooter).
This time the hater targeting an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs.
Five dead and nineteen with gun shot wounds, others injured in the melee according to the town’s mayor.
My intention for this blog post is to concentrate on those who challenged the shooter…and won. Hailed as heroes in the media, I certainly have no problem with that. But there’s way more to it than just labelling them as heroes.
Fight or flight! It’s an inbuilt gut reaction when confronted…humans and animals alike. And usually it’s a millisecond to make that choice.
I have no doubt that once the shooting started and bodies began to fall, individuals headed for the exits, bathrooms or other rooms to run or to hide. However, those caught on the same immediate floor space as the shooter almost in touching distance, have really only one choice for their own survival…and that is to fight! I guarantee that the individuals hailed today as heroes were in that position. Either the gunman was changing magazines or had a stoppage, or he was pointing the weapon at others before he got the chance to point at them…that was their cue to attack…and I absolute applaud them for their actions. They and many others are alive today thanks to them taking their fight to the shooter.
Apparently it seems that those heroes held the shooter at bay with his own weapon until police arrived on the scene and were able to arrest him.
It may have been only a few minutes until the police arrived, however it only takes seconds to kill and wound many, whether in a nightclub, place of work, school or any other location.

It has almost become the norm to see breaking news of a shooting somewhere in the USA, and that breaking news only seems to come on when the individuals targeted are shot in large numbers as seen here…five dead and nineteen wounded as mentioned above.
In my view as I’ve written many times in the past, there will be another mass shooting somewhere soon, followed by another and another.
Read up on my Run Hide Fight, know which option you can take dependent on where you are in relation to the shooter, park it inside your brain, and one day if you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time…use it to save your own life.
My heart goes out to all involved…we are all the same…we all deserve to live our lives freely.
