The Filth of American Politics

The country is currently ripped down the middle…on purpose?

Leadership, no matter the level, political, military, corporate or otherwise, all have a set of skills. Some come naturally, some are taught, but all should be put into practice.

I’ve lived in the USA now for almost 12 years. I’m a UK citizen, not a US citizen. I’m a great believer that if I was to become a US citizen, then I should hand in my UK citizenship. Becoming a US citizen would only add convenience to myself, it would mean nothing more than that. Therefore that’s not fair on the people of the United States in my view.

However, as a foreigner living here, I’m unable to vote. And this question comes up all the time with friends, neighbours and others who I meet along the way. Others in my position are the very same. They pay their taxes here, yet they cannot vote. Taxation without representation kicked off the war of independence…I believe.

Not being able to vote hasn’t allowed me to become blind to what’s going on around me though.

In total, from local elections for local politicians all the way up to the polls for President is wasting billions of $$$$$$ on TV adds, “town hall” events etc. In all that time, which turns out to be months and months, given that there is also the mid term elections at the two year point, there is next to no showing of just what the individuals really stand for, and just what they plan to do for their electorate and for America.

Just imagine how all those $$$$$$ could be better spent.

I’m disgusted and embarrassed watching and listening to individuals who wish to have their way into politics bought by others, and saying nothing more than slagging off their opposition.

Just where is the honesty, integrity and other leadership qualities being shown, when all they do is behave like children misbehaving in the playground?

When asked by American friends and neighbours about my thoughts on the election, I tell them the following:

I believe that in a country of roughly 350 million people, it’s most certainly big enough for more than two major parties. It could easily have three, and ideally in the long term five…nice uneven numbers.

The two party system of today is just splitting the country, splitting neighbours, splitting co-workers and splitting families.

Of course, the great American electorate only gets to vote for the people already chosen. Bankrolled by the billionaires of course.

Normally there’s perhaps 5 to 8 individuals all fighting for the position to represent the potential POTUS. This year it’s really just the two…Trump and Harris. They’re the one’s getting all of the TV air time, the radio talk shows, the big town halls etc etc. $$$$$$ thrown at them to split the country, keep it weak, while the billionaires get what they want, and whoever becomes President through the game of the electorate voting, will be representing those big donors and not the American people during their 4 year tenure.

A game of politics…a filthy game of politics…and the American “average Joe and average Jane” lose out each and every time.

Both parties blue or red, are no more than two cheeks of the same big fat Wall Street arse.

POTUS cannot control global economics as it’s just that, global economics. As I’ve said in previous posts, one country sneezes and the world catches the cold.

The border with Mexico is like the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan…it’s porous, and will remain so…forever.

The way to stop undocumented migration is to ensure that American business people take on Americans. Not driving down wages for better profits by taking on the undocumented. No work, accomodation, or schooling equals no security and therefore no future…they’ll soon stop coming.

I love America, it’s a wonderful and diverse landmass, the people are on the whole friendly, but hatred of groupings is felt everywhere. The two party system isn’t helping. Those friends of mine around the age of 80 have most definitely had the best of America.

Their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will have to take their heads out of the sand, rub their eyes, see what’s really happening, then do something about it. After all, it’s their country to fix now.

Sticking a plastic campaign sign in your front garden to show who you’re voting for, when they’ve already been chosen, for you to now choose just doesn’t cut it.

If I was an American citizen, I would be hell bent on becoming vocal, and persuading friends, neighbours and others to form alliances to peacefully take their country back from the billionaires by holding representatives of the people accountable and calling them out.

That once great America of so long ago could well come back, but only with the help of the American people on both sides of today’s divide.
