Happy Birthday To WE A poem by Bob Shepherd

Today like yesterday I’ll write my say

At the age of seventy I’m now here to stay

The most important people are my kids and my wife

Without them today I would not have a life

As we look around the world in this modern age

All about us even locally we see nothing but rage

Is it the feeding through high tech and the way that we communicate

That one day soon will eventually seal our fate?

Or is it the billionaires bankrolling our political masters

Perhaps it’s both combined that’s the making of these disasters?

For all those individuals that wake up holding a grudge

Look across at your neighbour but don’t judge don’t judge don’t judge

It’s the twenty first century we shouldn’t have this behaviour at all

The ordinary people on this earth deserve a global call

For fairness and decency and respect to one another

In the time that I’m writing this too many children are dying along with their mother

Enough is enough now as it’s my birthday today

I’m not a religious man so I never kneel down and pray

I believe that only WE the people can get things done

So my birthday’ wish for today is that WE can all live peacefully as one
